Reflection On Entire Semester

My expectations when I signed up for a hybrid 1102 class were pretty much the same as my 1102 class. I was looking for a class that didn’t meet very frequently during the week and an instructor that was committed to teaching students quality work that would adhere to them throughout life. The fact that this class was hybrid was a plus. It was nice to be able to log online and do school work versus sitting in a classroom setting. Another plus of the class was being able to learn a module in class and apply it a blog or wiki posting. It was like killing two birds in one stone.  All of my expectations were met. I could not have asked for a better instructor. However, one thing that I did dread the most, was submitting another wiki posting after the other. Don’t get me wrong, I loved the work, but I was so relieved once wiki postings were done and over with. The main thing I was looking forward to was getting all of my work done so I could begin to work on my portfolio at the end of the semester.  Within my portfolio, I had to include all of my essays. The essays that I had to write were relatively easy. It was nice that I was given a choice to pick my own essay topic instead of having one assigned to me.  The essay that was my favorite was the human interest essay. It’s my favorite because I was able to pick one celebrity that I knew rather well and write a paper about how media influenced her life.  However, I did receive the ghost grade that I hoped for. In fact, I didn’t receive any ghost grades that I hoped for- that’s why I revised all of my essays for my portfolio. I revised each one of my essays in hope for an enhanced final grade. I revised my essays by correcting grammatical errors and each sentence that the instructor highlighted for questioning. I wanted to make sure my essays were understandable.  The instructor also gave us a chance to review over our essays in class with our peers. I felt as if this was a waste of time because most of my peers needed help themselves and couldn’t give me that guidance that a teacher could. Conferences were a great step to get one-on-one help, but I could never go due to a hectic schedule with conflicting classes. I took Mrs. Morris English class previously in 1102, so it was kind of easy to relate to what her needs were. Already having a relationship with her helped me get through the course because I already knew what to expect and what kind of teacher she is. The research essay was the longest essay that I’ve probably ever written. However it was rather easy because the majority of my writings came from the ideas of my wiki postings. Everything that I have written in this class all has a connection with one another. Everything was consistent, never off topic. I always followed instructions to the best of my knowledge and worked as hard as I possibly could to earn an A in this class. I received an A for all of my wiki postings; therefore I believe I should receive an A for the class because the wiki postings were the backbone to my essays and I have revised each essay to what I believe is grade A material. The wikis helped me with all of my work. It housed all of my information- websites, credentials, and summaries.  On another note, the class was definitely one of my favorites mainly because of the use of technology. It was exciting to learn how to use Blogger, Wiki Spaces, Google Docs, and much more. I look at the web at a different view, thanks to Mrs. Morris. In the beginning of the semester, I wrote about my web presence. I stated that I only started a web presence for fun and really didn’t know why it started. Well, my web presence has changed. Everything that I put on the web now is very informative and I use different sites instead of the normal Facebook. I am now loving Blogger and Google Docs. I have noticed that my Google searches have changed also. I now search via Google Scholar for more scholastic results. I can positively say that I enjoyed everything this semester had to offer in English 1102. Another thing I enjoyed was the magazine creation. It was nice to be able to collaborate with two different students to complete the magazine in an orderly fashion. I worked on the magazine both in and out of class, however, working in class made it easier because everyone was there and if I had a question it could be easily answered by the teacher.  Now that the semester is coming to a halt, I look back and reflect on everything I’ve learned thus far. I believe that with Mrs. Morris’ preparation, guidance, and teachings, I am more than well prepared for my next English class. I feel more educated and even my vocabulary has enhanced. I feel as if I have accomplished so much, I can present myself to an employer without any hesitations. Mrs. Morris can pat herself on the back because I have never had a more educated, concerned, and intuitive English teacher.
